Pace Athletics Raises $2,000 for WBCA/Kay Yow Cancer Fund
Pleasantville, NY- On Saturday February 13th, Pace Basketball faced off against the College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up which featured the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Pink Zone Cancer Fundraiser. In total, Pace Athletics was able to generate over $2,000 for the WBCA/Kay Yow Cancer Fund with a large turnout at the Goldstein Health and Fitness Center.
Part of the event's huge success came from the help of local sponsors for Pace Athletics. The title sponsor of the Pink Zone Fundraiser was Twin Jewelers of Pleasantville, who were on hand at the event selling jewelry right before Valentine's Day. Pace Athletics and Twin Jewelers raffled off a piece of pink jewelry with all the proceeds going to the WBCA/Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Other sponsors for the Pink Zone fundraiser included Finnegan's Grill of Thornwood, and Flour & Sun Bakery in Pleasantville. Finnegan's Grill sponsored the four-shot challenge for $15,000 at halftime of the men's game, while Flour & Sun Bakery donated 100 pink cupcakes for the fans to enjoy during the games.
The WBCA Pink ZoneTM initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game as a sport for women and girls. For additional information about the WBCA, please visit wbca.org.
