PACE ATHLETICS ANNOUNCES HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2010
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University Athletics Department will enshrine four members as the tenth induction class into its Hall of Fame, as announced by Joseph O'Donnell, Director of Athletics.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2010 included Andreea Cotoranu (Volleyball, 2000-03), Mary Ellen Esch-Warne (Women’s Basketball, 1980-84), Angela Locsin (Softball, 2002-05), and Martin Volin (Men’s Basketball, 1950-53, and Baseball 1952-53).
Cotoranu shined in her time on Pace’s volleyball team a two time Daktronics All-American (’00-’01), and Northeast-10 Player of the Year (’00-’01), as well as being named NE-10 Freshman of the Year in her rookie season (’00). In 2000, Cotoranu helped the Setters reach the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament. She also holds the NCAA All-Divisions Record for Kills in a 5-set match.
Esch-Warne is the first women’s basketball player in school history to record 1,000 points and rebounds in a career, and one of only six Setters to break the 1,000 rebound barrier. For her career, she is 11th on the all-time list in points, and 6th on the all-time list in rebounds at Pace.
Locsin was one of the finest players in the history of the Pace softball program. She was a two-time selection for the NFCA All-Region team (1st Team ’02, 2nd Team ’03), and was also the first softball player in Northeast-10 Conference history to be named player and pitcher of the year in the same season (’04). For her career, Locsin holds school pitching records in: innings pitched, wins, strikeouts, complete games, shutouts, and saves; as well as the school record for most homeruns hit in a career.
As a two sport athlete, Volin scored 606 points in 60 games (10.1 per game) as part of the Pace men’s basketball team. As a baseball player, Volin led the Knickerbocker League with a .345 batting average in the 1953 season.
Created in 1997, the Pace Athletics Hall of Fame will have 32 total members including this year's class.
