SETTERS FALL TO FLORIDA SOUTHERN, 17-7
LAKELAND, FL- The Setter baseball team lost to Florida Southern, 17-7, in the second of a three-game series between the teams. Pace drops to 9-2 on the season.
Pace struck first as Matt Castellano (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph) ripped a two-run double in the first inning, scoring JC Pullum (White Plains, NY/Valhalla) and Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep), who had both singled. In the bottom of the inning, Florida Southern tied the score on a two-run home run. The Setters took the lead in the third as Matt Arburr (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) grounded out to score Cawley.
Florida Southern broke the game open in the middle innings, scoring 13 runs, featuring a nine-run sixth inning.
In the Setter seventh, Pullum drew a lead off walk, following by Cawley getting hit by a pitch to reach base. Following back-to-back strikeouts, Mike Pahira (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) singled to load the bases. Adam Harwood (Los Angeles, CA/Brentwood) followed with a single to center field, driving in Cawley and Pullum, but Pahira was thrown out at third base. The Setters closed out their scoring on the day as Arburr smacked a two-run home run in the ninth.
For Pace, Pahira went 3-for-5 on the day. Cawley went 1-for-2,
while scoring three times. Castellano had two hits in four at-bats,
while driving in a pair of runs. On the mound, David
Qualben (Brooklyn, NY/Xavier) tossed five innings,
allowing nine hits and seven runs (six earned), while striking out
three and walking four, dropping his record to 2-1 on the season.
Michael Sheehy (Pelham, NY/Pelham, Memorial) faced
six batters without recording an out, allowing six hits and seven
earned runs. Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk)
pitched two innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs.
Tom Parry (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) closed out the
final inning, allowing one earned run and one hit.
