SETTERS COMPLETE SWEEP WITH 4-2 WIN IN 10 INNINGS
WILMINGTON, DELAWARE – The Pace University baseball team won
the third game of a three game series with Wilmington College, 4-2,
in 10 innings. Adam Harwood’s (Los Angeles,
CA) RBI double in the top of the 10th scored
Chris Brown (North Kingston, RI/South Kingstown)
with the winning run. Pace improves to 6-1 on the season
while Wilmington drops to 2-5.
Matt Arburr (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) blasted
his fourth homerun of the season, and third of the series, to lead
off the top of the 2nd inning and give Pace a 1-0
lead. In the top of the 4th, Arburr reached base
on an error by the third baseman and scored on a double by
Mike Pahira (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) to give Pace a
2-0 lead heading to the bottom of the 4th.
Pace starter Bryan Hallberg (River Edge, NJ/ River Dell
Regional) held Wilmington scoreless through 3 2/3 before
Wilmington managed to cut the Setter lead to 2-1 when Dan Cleary
(Milton, DE) doubled and then stole third base. Cleary would
score on a wild pitch by Hallberg.
Wilmington would tie the game in the 7th inning when
Cleary doubled to lead off the inning. After Garry Wright
(Newark, DE) ground out to the shortstop, Cleary advanced to third
base. Andy Chunn (Lewes, DE) singled to scored Cleary with
the tying run.
Angelo Fusaro (Stamford, CT/Westhill) relieved
Hallberg and held Wilmington scoreless over 2 1/3 without allowing
a hit. In the 10th inning, Brown led off with a
single and was moved over to second when Brian Hollrah
(Glenwood, MD/Glenely) grounded out to first base.
Harwood would then follow with a double, scoring Brown and giving
Pace a 3-2 lead. Dennis Alimonti (Jefferson Valley,
NY/ Lakeland) doubled in his first collegiate at-bat,
scoring Harwood and giving Pace a 4-2 lead heading to the bottom of
the second.
Earl Oakes (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) picked up
his second save of the season after holding Wilmington hitless
while striking out one. Oakes now has 13 saves for his
career, 1st all-time at Pace, and has extended his
scoreless innings pitched streak to 24 1/3 innings, dating back to
last season.
