BASEBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH MOLLOY
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University Baseball team split a doubleheader with Molloy College, taking the first game 8-4 and dropping the finale 7-0. The Setters move their record to 4-1 on the season, while Molloy remains at .500 at 3-3.
With the Setters trailing 2-0 in the third, Pace chipped away at the Molloy lead on back-to-back doubles by Adam Harwood (Los Angeles, CA/Brentwood) and Vinny Dammann (Muilica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) cut the their deficit in half.
The Setters took to lead in the fifth, scoring five runs. Dammann drew a lead-off walk. With one out, Joe Barracato (Westbury, NY/Clarke) and Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Dammann scored on a wild pitch to tie the game, while Barracato and Liscinsky moved up a base. Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) walked to once again load the bases. The big blow came off the bat of Matt Arburr (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern), who swatted a grand-slam homerun to left field to put Pace up 6-2. Each team tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh, as Cawley reached on a bunt single and stole second. Ted Mullen (Madison, CT/Choate Rosemary Hall) hit a deep shot to right-center for a triple to score Cawley. Mullen scored on the next play as Neil Ross (Cortland Manor, NY/Dominican College) doubled to center.
Dustin Corbett (Vestal, NY/Vestal) earned his first win of the year, hurling six innings, allowing two earned runs and four hits, while striking out two. Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) closed out the game tossing the final 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball, giving up two hits and struck out three.
Pace struggled in the nightcap, mustering only four hits in a 7-0 loss to Molloy. Liscinsky, Arburr, Cawley, and Chris Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) each singled to record the only Setter hits in Game Two.
Angelo Fusaro (Stamford, CT/Westhill) started,
pitching three innings, allowing three earned runs and seven hits,
while striking out four, dropping his record to 1-1. Zach
Dayton (North Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) came on in relief,
tossing two innings, allowing three earned runs, and four hits,
while striking out two. Mike Mastrogiovani (Glen Rock,
NJ/Glen Rock) threw a shutout sixth inning, while
Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) closed
out the game, allowing one run in the seventh and final inning of
the second game.
