PACE RALLIES PAST CSU DOMINGUEZ HILLS, 11-10

SCORED SEVEN RUNS IN THE NINTH IN COMEBACK VICTORY.

CARSON, CA- The Setters took advantage of three Toros errors in the ninth, to score seven times and rally past Cal State Dominguez Hills, 11-10. The Setters improve to 6-9 overall on the season, while the Toros drop to 5-16-1.

CSU Dominguez Hills got on the board early with a pair of solo homeruns in the opening inning, while tacking on a another run on a hit by pitch, wild pitch, groundout and sacrifice fly. The Toros added three more in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead over Pace.

The Setters rallied in the fifth as Joe Barracato (Westbury, NY/Clarke) and Andre Liscinsky Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) led off with back-to-back triples. Ray Caronia (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) drove in Liscinsky with a SAC fly to right. Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) followed with a double and scored on a single by Matt Rigoli (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany).

The Toros added a run on the fifth on a solo blast but the Setters rallied again in the sixth. Barracato singled and proceeded to steal second. Caronia drew a walk and Cawley singled to load the bases. Matt Arburr (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) was hit by a pitch to force in Barracato and put the Setters down 7-4 heading into the wacky and decisive ninth inning.

In the ninth, Cawley reached on a bunt single down the third base line and moved to second when Arburr walked. Cawkey moved to third on a flyout, followed by Rigoli drawing a walk to fill the bases. Pinch hitter Vinny Dammann (Muilica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) reached on an error by the first baseman to score

Arburr and Cawley. Pace would score seven in the inning to take an 11-7 lead into the bottom half of the frame.

CS Dominguez Hills did not go quietly as they hit a solo homer and took advantage of three Setters miscues in the innings to cross the plate three times in the inning and cut the Setter lead to 11-10 MacKenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional), in his second inning of work, closed the door, forcing a harmless ground out to end the game, allowing the Setters to survive a thrilling 11-10 win.

For Pace, Angelo Fusaro (Stamford, CT/Westhill) started, tossing three innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, while fanning two. Zach Dayton (North Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) came on in relief, giving up four runs on five hits in one inning of work. Alexander Mason (Mamaroneck, NY/Rye Neck) threw a pair of shutout innings, while Michael Sheehy (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) pitched a scoreless seventh. King (2-0) closed on the final two innings, allowing three runs (one earned) and two hits, while striking out two, to earn his second victory of the season.
