NINTH INNING RALLY FALLS SHORT AS PACE LOSES TO DOMINICAN

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - A ninth inning rally by the Pace baseball team fell short as the Setters lost a non-conference game to Dominican 7-5. The Setters fall to 11-8 on the season, while the Chargers improve to 6-12 overall.

The Setters struck first as Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT) scored on a single Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) in the second to give Pace an early 1-0 lead. Dominican took the lead in the third as they took advantage of two Pace errors to push across three runs, two of which were unearned. Pace would rally to tie the score at three as Chris Brown (West Kingston, RI) ripped an RBI double in the fourth and Vinny Dammann's (Mullica Hill, NJ) run scoring single in the fifth inning, knotted the score at three.

The teams combined for six runs in the ninth as Dominican pushed across four runs in the top half of the inning. The Chargers took advantage of a two-out passed ball on a dropped third strike and an error later in the inning to tally four unearned runs and take a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth. Pace would rally as Cawley and Neil Ross (Cortland Manor, NY) notched back-to-back one out singles. Following a ground out, Cawley scored on an infield single by Dammann, as Ross advanced to third. Matt Rigoli's (Parsippany, NJ) single allowed Ross to cross the plate and gave the Setters runners at first and second with two outs. The Chargers were able to work out of the jam and escape with the win.

On the hill, Tommy Parry (Wayne, PA) started, going three-plus innings, allowing three hits and three runs (one earned), while striking out one. Mackenzie King (Blairstown, NJ) came on in relief, striking out 11 but allowed four unearned runs, to drop his record to 1-1 on the season. Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/West Harrison) tossed a scoreless 1/3 of an inning in relief.

For Dominican, Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) tossed three innings, allowing three hits and one run, while striking out four. Dominick Ruiscitti (Washingtonville, NY) came on in relief, pitching five innings, giving up six hits and two runs (one earned), evening his record at 1-1 on the season. Tom Kahl (Bay Shore, NY) pitched the ninth, allowing four hits and two runs.

The Setters return to action on Thursday, March 27 when they will travel to Worcester, MA to a Northeast-10 Conference game against Assumption scheduled for a 3:30 first pitch. The Chargers will host Post University on Thursday and start at 3:30 pm.
