PACE CRUISES TO SECOND STRAIGHT
CONFERENCE WIN
DAYTON REGISTERS FIVE K'S SEVEN IN WIN
WORCESTER, MA - Zach Dayton (North Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) totaled five strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings to lead the Setters to a 4-1 win over Assumption. The Setters improve to 12-8 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds drop to 5-9 and 1-3 in conference play.
Joe Barracato (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) got the offense going in the third, leading off the inning with a triple and scored on a base hit by Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep). Cawley would steal second, move to third on a fly out and scored on a single by Aaron Zrenda (Niantic, CT/Loomis Chaffee Prep). The teams would trade runs in the fourth as the Setters would score a run on a passed ball. An RBI triple by Derek Migrants would account for the lone Greyhound run of the day. The Setters would tack on a run in the eighth as Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) blasted a solo homerun to right for the final run of the day.
On the hill, Dayton (1-1) was solid, allowing four hits in the day. Mike Schiarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford) tossed the final 1 2/3 innings of scoreless and hitless ball, earning his second save of the season.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday
March 30 when they will host Southern New Hampshire for a
three-game series. The Saturday doubleheader will begin at 12 pm
and Sunday's single game will also start at 12 pm at Finnerty Field
on Pace's Pleasantville campus.
