PACE'S 11 HITS NOT ENOUGH AS SETTERS FALL TO BENTLEY 5-2
WALTHAM, MA - The Pace baseball team pounded out 11 hits on the day but fell 5-2 to the Falcons of Bentley College in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 19-11 overall and 9-2 in the NE-10, while the Falcons improve to 11-19 and 6-9 in conference play.
Pace would get on the board in the opening inning as Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) led off with a single and moved to third on a throwing error. Liscinsky would score as the Falcons turned a double play for the first run of the game.
The Falcons would rally in their half of the third, pushing across a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. The Setters responded in the fourth with a two-out rally. Aaron Zrenda (Niantic, CT/Chaffee Loomis Prep) singled down the right field line and scored the tying run on a double by Matt Rigoli (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany).
Bentley would take the lead back in the seventh innings, loading the bases with two outs. Ross Curley (Lexington, MA) would triple to left field scoring all three runners, giving Bentley a 5-2 lead that the Setters could not overcome.
On the hill for Pace, Michael Mastrogiovanni (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) started, tossing five innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs, while striking out five. Dane Doucette (Middletown, NY/Middletown) pitched one innings allowing one run on two hits and struck out one. Michael Franza (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (0-2) went one inning, giving up two run on one hit, while Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) tossed a scoreless inning.
The Setters return to action on Friday, April 11 when they
travel to Easton, MA to take on Stonehill College in a Northeast-10
Conference doubleheader scheduled for a 1:00 pm first pitch.
