 BASEBALL CALLED DUE TO DARKNESS; GAME ENDS IN 2-2 TIE AFTER 13 INNINGS

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace-Franklin Pierce baseball game ended in a 2-2 tie after neither team could push across a run in extra innings and ran out of daylight. The Setters are now 22-12-1 and 12-3-1 in the Northeasr-10, while the Ravens are 25-7-1 and 10-5-1 in conference play.

Pace would get on the board in the first as Mike Torello (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on a double by Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep).

The Ravens knotted the game at one in the third as Randy Bernosky (Port Huron, MI) led off with a double, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jake Christman (Newton, MA). Franklin Pierce would go ahead in the seventh Cliff Hicks (Merrimack, NH) reached on an infield single and moved to second on a sac bunt. Jacob Ferreira (Westport, MA) reached on an infield hit on Hicks advanced to third. Following a strikeout, Derek Ingui (Sterling, MA) sliced a ball down the right field line, allowing Hicks to score but a perfect relay from Joe Cotone (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland) to Matt Rigoli (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) to Cawley at the plate, retired Ferreira at home for the final out of the inning.

In the eighth, Cotone hit a fly ball that was misjudged by the leftfielder and sailed over his head for a two-base error. Cotone moved to third on a ground out and scored as pinch hitter Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) lifted a sac fly to center for the tying run.

The five innings featured outstanding pitching by both bullpens as closed the door on quality scoring opportunities in extra innings. For the Ravens, Mike Adams (Orchard Park, NY) went the first 6 2/3 allowing one earned run on six hits and struck out seven. Tyler Bishop (Milford, NH) went the final 6 1/3 allowing one unearned run on three hits and struck out nine. For the Setters Mike Mastrogiovanni (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) tossed the first 3 2/3 allowing one run and two hits and struck out two. Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NJ/West Harrison) came on in relief, going 3 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits. The bullpen didn't allow a run the rest of the way as Mike Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford), 2 1/3 innings, Mackenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren), 2 2/3 innings and Nicholas Demeo (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East), one inning, combined to allow three hits the rest of the way.

The Setters return to action when they travel to North Andover, MA on Thursday, April 17 for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Merrimack College at 3:30 pm.
