BASEBALL DROPS TWO TO BRYANT

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace baseball team ranked #3 in the latest NCAA Northeast Regional rankings, dropped a pair of Northeast-10 Conference games on the day, falling to Bryant 3-0 in the opener and falling 1-0 in 10 innings in the nightcap. The Setters drop to 29-20 overall and 17-11 in the NE-10, while the Bulldogs improve to 38-16 and finish 25-5 in conference play.

The opener featured a pitcher's dual between the Setters' Dustin Corbett (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and Bryant's Eric Loh. Both hurlers went eight innings and the first six innings remained scoreless. The Bulldogs would break through against Corbett in the seventh and eighth, scoring one run in each inning. Bryant would tack on a run in the ninth off reliever Mike Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford). Corbett (6-3) allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four, while Loh went eight scoreless innings, allowing six hits and struck out three. Eric Polvani pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up his 10th save of the season.

Pitching dominated the nightcap as well as the Setters' Zach Dayton (North Falmouth, MA/North Falmouth) tossed 9 1/3 scoreless innings, while his counterpart David O'Brien went seven scoreless. The Setter offense was stymied all afternoon as their lone hit of game two came in the 10th on a Joe Barracato (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) single. The Bulldogs would push a run across in the 10th inning and closer Polvani picked up his 11th save of the season and second of the day. Mark Andrew (2-0) retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth innings to earn the win for Bryant. Dayton (4-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing one run on two hits and struck out four in his 9 1/3 innings of work. Sciarretta pitched the final 2/3 of an inning, allowing one hit.

The Setters return to action when they host American International College on Sunday, May 4, when will close out their regular season with a Northeast-10 doubleheader against the Yellow Jackets scheduled for a noon first pitch.
