SETTERS RALLY IN THE FINAL TWO INNINGS IN WIN OVER AIC
SPRINGFIELD, MA- Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) scored a pair of runs, including the eventual game-winner in the top of the ninth as the Setters rallied back from a two run deficit to win their second straight 4-3 over American International. The Setters improve to 7-11-1 on the season and 2-2 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 2-13 and 0-3 in conference play.
American International pushed across the first run of the game on a run scoring single by Dan Bassani to put the Yellow Jackets up 1-0. The Setters would tie the game the sixth as Liscinsky drew a two-out walk. He would go on to steal second, advance to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood).
The Yellow Jackets would answer in their half of the sixth, scoring a pair of runs to take a 3-1 lead. Pace would wait until the final two innings to rally as Joe Cotone (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland) doubled and Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) walked. Tyler Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) reached on an infield single to load the bases. Denis Alimonti (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) was hit by a pitch to force one run in, while Steve Sterlacci (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) singled through the right side of the infield to tie the score at three. In the ninth, Liscinsky led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Liscinsky advanced to third on a groundout and scored the go-ahead run on a single by Dammann.
On the mound for the Setters, Chris Camastro (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) tossed six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while fanning eight. Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) went the final three innings, giving up only one hit and struck out three to improve to 1-1 on the season.
The Setters and the Yellow Jackets will wrap up their two-game series on Thursday, March 26, when the teams will play at Finnerty Field on Pace's Pleasantville campus. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
