SETTERS FALL TO UMASS LOWELL 5-2

LOWELL, MA - The Pace University baseball team dropped a road conference game 5-2 to the River Hawks of UMass Lowell. The Setters fall to 17-25-1 and 11-15 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the River Hawks improve to 23-14 and 14-10 in conference play.

UMass Lowell would score in each of the first three innings, pushing across one run in each frame for 3-0 lead after three innings of play. Pace would get on the board in the fourth inning as Joe Cotone (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland) led off with double to left field. Tyler Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) drove in Cotone with a two-out double to left field to slice the score to 3-1.

The River Hawks would tack on some insurance runs in the fifth and sixth inning to extend their lead to 5-1. Pace would push across a run in the eighth as JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) drew a lead-off walk. Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) would rip a one-out double down the left field line to drive in Conrad with the second Setter run of the day.

The Setters were limited to seven hits on the afternoon as UMass Lowell starter Jack Leathersich tossed a complete game, allowing two runs, while striking out six. For Pace, Giuseppe Granitto (Bronx, NY/Concordia College) (1-6) went 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits.  

The teams would wrap up their brief two game series as the River Hawks and the Setters would square off at Finnerty Field on Sunday, April 26 at 1 pm on Pace's Pleasantville campus.
