SETTERS LOSE CONFERENCE OPENER, 28-7, TO C.W. POST
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - L.I.U.-C.W. Post's ground game was too much for the Pace University defense as the Pioneers roled to 266 yards on the ground en route to a 28-7 victory at Hickox Field in Brookville, NY. Pace goes to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Northeast-10 while C.W. Post improves to 2-0 overall and in conference play.
C.W. Post's Anthony Lazarus scored twice on runs of 15 and 1-yard while Andrew Kroell kicked three field goals, from 32-, 40- and 31-yards out. Lazarus had 24 carries for 121 yards. Frank Prochilo had a 1-yard touchdown run to cap off the day for the Pioneers after rambling to 39 yards on seven carries on the day.
Lazarus scored the Pioneer's first points of the game, finding the end zone on a 15-yard run to cap a four play, 35-yard drive. Kroell would kick two of his three field goals on the day in the first half to give C.W. Post a 13-0 lead heading into halftime.
After Kroell kicked his third field goal of the game, which accounted for all the points scored in the third quarter, to give Post a 16-0 lead, Lazarus scored his second touchdown of the day on a 1-yard run to start the 4th quarter to cap a three play, 20-yard drive.
Pace got their only points on the day when the Setters blocked a punt by Kroell and sophomore Jonathon Jones (Dover, NH/Bridgton Academy) recovered the fumble in the Pioneers end zone. Luigi Casale (White Plains, NY/Iona Prep) would convert on the extra point attempt to cut the Pioneers' lead to 28-7.
Prochilo's touchdown with 7:35 on the clock would seal the win for Post and cap off the scoring on the day, giving the Pioneers a 28-7 win.
Pace freshman Daniel Moyer (Highstown, NJ/Notre Dame) had a solid day behind center. Moyer was 15-for-21 for 99 yards. Defensively, Jones also had one interception, as did Erik Hubbard (Pittsburg, CA/Diablo Valley) who picked off a pass for the second week in a row. Hubbard also finished with eight tackles on the day. Jones totaled 11 tackles in the game while Joe Streany (Croton, NY/Croton-Harmon) had 12 tackles including one sack. Chris Anzano (Ramapo, NJ/Fordham) had three kickoff returns for 65 yards on the day.
