STREANY SETS FUMBLE RECORD/COONEY BREAKS PUNT RECORD
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Joe Streany (Croton, NY/Croton) recovered his fifth fumble of the season, breaking the single-season school record of four previously set three different times. Punter Matt Cooney (East Rockaway, NY/East Rockaway) booted a 71-yard punt in the fourth quarter eclipsing the previous record of 70 set by Bill Mentekidis on November 4, 1995. The Setters drop to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-3 and 4-2 in conference play.
The Yellow Jackets put up the lone score of the day in the opening quarter as the drive started from the own six-yard-line. Seven plays later, quarterback Rob Parent connected with Marcus Cameron on a 59-yard touchdown pass to account for the lone score of the day.
For the day, the AIC offense racked up 272 total yards, while the Setters totaled 98 yards of total offense. Calvin Hall for the Yellow Jackets rushed for 74 yards on 21 carries, while Parent tossed for 178 yards in the air on 13-for-27 passing and one interception. Cameron finished the day with two catches for 64 yards, while Tyler Scaccia led all receivers with four receptions for 61 yards.
For the Setters, Josh Trumper (Pine Grove, NJ/Toms River South) led the Setters rushing attack with 36 yards on 16 carries, while Trevor Countryman (Lansing, NY/Lansing) totaled 24 yards on the ground on eight carries. Ray Gregg (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) tossed for 18 yards in the air, while completing 2-of-5 passes. Adam Headley (Shelton, CT/Stony Brook) also saw time at QB, throwing for 51 yards on 7-for-15 passing.
Defensively for the Setters, Streany once again led Pace with a game-high 13 tackles and also had his record-setting fumble recovery on an AIC punt return, forced by the Ricky McCollum (Newburgh, NY/UConn). Michael LaMonica (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) totaled nine tackles, while Jon Jones (Dover, NH/Bridgeton Academy) tallied eight with two for losses. McCollum and Greg Brain (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) each finished with seven, while Brain also recorded an interception. Nick Liguori (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) posted a pair of quarterback sacks, while Lee Robinson (New Milford, CT/New Milford) added one.
The Setters return to action when they travel to North Andover,
MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Merrimack College on
Saturday, October 27 for 12:30 p.m. kickoff. The Yellow Jackets
will host the Pioneers of C.W. Post next Saturday.
