Football Falls to Top Ranked Stonehill in NE-10 Action
EASTON, MA- Antwan Washington (Belle Glade, FL/Belle Glade) rushed for a touchdown as the Pace Football team fell to the top ranked Skyhawks of Stonehill College 42-14 in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Setters fall to 0-9 overall and 0-8 in the NE-10, while the Skyhawks improve to 7-2 and 7-1 in conference play.
Stonehill got on the board early in the game as quarterback Logan Meyer tossed a pair of first half touchdown passes. Colin Marcus also added a short touchdown run early in the second quarter for a 21-0 lead. The Skyhawks added three rushing touchdowns in the second half including two for Marcus.
The Setters got on the board late in the first half as Washington led the Pace offense on a 12-play, 71-yard drive. Running back Jashon Dawson (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) had a key two-yard run on a 4th-and-1 from around midfield to keep the drive alive, while Washington connected with Brian Beeker (Spring Hill, FL/Springstead) for 16-yard pass play bring the Setters to the Stonehill 17-yard line. Dawson added a 16-yard run down to the Skyhawk one-yard-line and Delaney Wallace (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) finished the drive with a short touchdown.
Pace added to their point total in the fourth quarter as Washington used his legs and arm to power the Setters to their second touchdown of the day. He rushed for 12 yards for a first down, while completing a 14-yard pass to Cameron Davis (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) down to the Stonehill 12-yard line. Washington added a 10 yard rush and two plays later leaped in for a Pace touchdown.
For Pace, Washington completed 26-of-39 for 214 yards, while rushing seven times for 43 yards and a touchdown. Wallace rushed for 26 yards and first half touchdown, while Beeker led the Pace receivers with eight catches for 78 yards. Matt Tarpley (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi) finished with six receptions for 37 yards, while Davis totaled four catches for 51 yards.
On defense, Michael Petrizzo (West Hempstead, NY/West Hempstead) led the Setters with nine tackles, while Joseph Roman (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) added eight on the day. Addison Casey (Eliot, ME/Marshwood) and Tyler Owens (Salem, NJ/Salem) each recorded half a sack, while Gavin Maher (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) posted a sack.
The Setters are back in action on Saturday, November 9 for their final home game of the 2013 season. Pace hosts Saint Anselm College at 12 pm for Senior Day and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day. Pace Athletics will recognize their football seniors prior to the opening kickoff.
