Mike Iezzi enters his third season as the Setters' head
coach after spending the six seasons as Pace's defensive
coordinator under retired head coach, Greg Lusardi. Iezzi
also served as the team's linebackers coach.
Coach Iezzi's recruiting efforts paid this past off season as the
Setters brought in a record-breaking freshman class and an opening
day roster of 99 players.
In 2006, the Setters defense continued to grow into one of the
best in the region and the country under Coach Iezzi, as Pace led
the nation in Division II in Pass Efficiency Defense, Turnover
Margin, Turnovers Gained, while also ranking third in country in
Interceptions and fourth in Fumble Recoveries. Overall, the defense
finished thirty-fourth in the country, while the allowing an
average of 16.8 points per game on the season.
Pace ranked 4th in the Northeast-10 Conference in total defense,
allowing just 269 yards per game. They also had the 2nd best
defense against the pass in the NE-10, while also holding opponents
to 134 yards per game in the air. The Setters also led the
conference in red zone efficiency. The special teams also saw
success as the Setters led the conference in punt returns.
Coach Iezzi joined the Pace football staff seven years ago
following a one-year stint as the defensive coordinator at St.
Peter's College.
Prior to working at St. Peter's, Iezzi spent seven years on the
staff of Kean College (NJ). He began his coaching career in 1989 as
Kean's outside linebacker coach and JV coach. He coached the
defensive line in 1990 and the inside linebackers in 1991 before
being named the defensive and recruiting coordinator in 1992. In
1995 he was promoted to the associate head coach.
Iezzi earned a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from Kean
College in 1988. He was an all-conference linebacker for Kean, and
was the team captain from 1985-1988. Mike and his wife Laurie
reside in Ringwood, NJ with their daughter Sabrina and son, Nick.
