Neal Wellington Named to Northeast-10 Conference 3rd Team
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Pace senior guard Neal Wellington
(Wheaton, MD/Good Counsel) was named to the 2005-06
Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball 3rd team, as voted on by
Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball coaches. Wellington
was one of 20 players, including five freshman, to receive the
honors as release on Thursday, March 2, 2006.
This season, Wellington became the first Pace men’s
basketball player to reach 1,000 points, 350 assists, 200 steals
and 165 3-pointers for a career. This season he started in all 28
games played, scoring in double figures in 22 of those games,
including seven 20-point games. Wellington set career highs in
points, points per game, assists, free throw percentage and
rebounds. He had a career-high 29 points against UMass Lowell on
January 25th and a career-high 13 assists against Molloy on
November 15th. He currently ranks 10th in the Northeast-10 in
points per game at 15.4, 3rd in assists per game with 5.61, 4th in
free throw percentage at 85.7% and 9th in assist-to-turnover ratio
at 1.78. For his career, his 238 steals rank 1st all-time,
his 1,230 career points rank 16th, his 340 assists rank 7th and his
166 3-pointers rank 5th all-time at Pace. Wellington's 157
assists are the 2nd highest single season total in Pace history.
Around the conference, UMass Lowell's Stacey Moragne and
Bryant's John Williams were named co-Players of the Year while also
being named to the NE-10 1st team. Joining them on the first
team were Saint Anselm's Matt Cahill and Jim Moore, as well as
Stonehill's Marquis Taylor. On the 2nd team were Bentley's
Sean Cooke and Tim Forbes, who were joined by Southern New
Hampshire's Miguel Gonzalez, American International's John Huggins
and Saint Rose's Brad Shove. Joining Wellington on the 3rd
team were Stonehill's Chris Kraus and Sean Nelson, as well as UMass
Lowell's Brandon Arnette and Southern New Hampshire's P.J.
Young. The all-rookie team consisted of Le Moyne's
Damani Corbin, Franklin Pierce's Timothy Munch, Bryant's Nick
Pontes and Jarrann Wright as well as Stonehill's Nick Smith.
Smith was named NE-10 Rookie of the Year while Southern New
Hampshire's Gonzalez was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Stonehill's David McLaughlin was named NE-10 Conference Coach of
the Year.
