PACE CRUISES BY UMASS LOWELL, 80-64
PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The Pace University men’s basketball team won their 2005 home opener, 80-64, over Northeast-10 Conference opponent, UMass Lowell in a game played at the Goldstein Fitness Center on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University. Pace improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10 while UMass Lowell drops to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA) poured in a game-high 23 points while also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds and also totaling a game-high four steals. Williams scored 13 of his 23 in the second half, knocking down 5-of-8 from the floor including 1-of-3 from long range.
Both teams were fairly close in all statistical categories except for field goal percentage, in which Pace shot a hefty 44.3% (27-61) to Lowell’s 30% (18-60). Pace would score 20 points, to Lowell’s 15, in the paint and also picked up 15 points as a result of UMass Lowell turnovers.
Pace led for most of the game, taking a 35-25 lead heading into the half. Pace would push their lead to 15 points, 42-27, in just under three minutes into the second half as Maurice Douglas (Waldorf, MD) had a 3-pointer and a breakaway dunk. Williams had a steal and a lay-up sandwiched between the two. Pace would lead by as many as 16 points with just over two minutes before pushing their lead to 19-points, 80-61, with 33 seconds on the clock.
Neal Wellington (Wheaton, MD) finished with 13 points and five assists while Douglas would turn in a 10-point performance, while also grabbing five boards.
For UMass Lowell, Stace Garrick (West Warrick, RI) had a team-high 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 2-of-4. Stacey Moragne (Evanston, IL) had 13 points and 12 rebounds, five coming on the offensive end.
The Setters return to action when they travel to Manchester, NH on Tuesday, November 22nd for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup with the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University set for 7:30 p.m.
