PACE EDGES NEW HAVEN, 75-59
PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The Pace University men’s
basketball team held off a big second half from University of New
Haven, winning 75-59. Pace led 43-20 at halftime, and by as
many as 26 points half way throught the 2nd half.
New Haven was able to cut the Setter lead to 11 points at the 10
minute mark before Pace pulled away again. Pace improves to 7-4
overall while New Haven falls to 3-7 on the season.
Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) scored a team-high
19 points, hitting on 7-of-17 from the floor including four
3-pointers. Neal Wellington (Wheaton, MD/Good
Counsel) totaled 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting including
2-of-4 from long range while also dishing out six assists and
coming away with two steals. Desmond Quincy-Jones
(Rye, NY/Rye) totaled 10 points, six rebound and two
blocks.
For New Haven, Jon Castaldi (Oxford, CT/St. Joseph’s) scored
a game-high 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting while also grabbing
seven rebounds. Tetrick Stonar (Hartford, CT/
Arkansas-Monticello) had 12 points while John Sullivan (Bridgeport,
CT/Harding) had 10 points and six rebounds.
Pace outshot New Haven, drilling home 48.3% of their shots to New
Haven’s 42.4%. The major difference in the game was the
outside shooting as Pace hit nine 3-pointers while New Haven was
limited to just three.
