MEN'S BASKETBALL SURVIVES OT THRILLER, 84-82

New Haven, CT - Pace University went on a 9-0 run in overtime to defeat Southern Connecticut 84-82 in men's basketball action tonight at J.W. Moore Field house.

Pace led by as many as seven points in the second half, but the Owls went on a 22-6 run midway through the second half to take a six point lead with 6:26 left to play.  Pace answered back with an 8-3 run to send the game into overtime.

Southern Connecticut had six players in double figures including double-doubles from Seniors Kevin Diffley (Queens, N.Y.) and Danny Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.).  Diffley had 12 points while pulling down 12 rebounds as Miller drained 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.  Trevor Harris (Nanuet, N.Y.) had 13 points, Devon Sullivan (Jamaica, N.Y.) had 11 points, Derrick Corbett (New Haven, Conn.) scored 13 points while the newest Owl, Tyrese Sullivan (New Haven, Conn.), scored 12 in the loss.

The first half featured mostly back and forth play as both teams battled for the lead.  Southern Connecticut's largest lead of the half came with 5:27 remaining when Harris sank a three pointer off an assist from Tyrese Sullivan.  Pace answered back right away, sinking a three of their own from Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) off an assist from Carlos Howard (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High)

Pace would come all the way back to send the game into the half tied at 39.  Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye) led the Setters in the first half with 15 points.  He would finish the night with a double-double scoring a game-high 22 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. Williams chipped in with 19 points and a game-high seven steals, Howard added 14 points and a team-high three assists and Randy Wilson (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill) was the fourth Setter in double figures contributing with 10 points. 

The game was played evenly throughout as both teams finished the game shooting nearly even at 42-percent from the floor for the Setters and 42.3-percent for the Owls.

Southern Connecticut drops their record to 3-11 overall and 2-9 in the NE-10 in their third overtime game of the year.  The Owls are 1-2 in over-time games this season.  Pace improves their record to 10-8 overall and 6-4 in the NE-10.

The Setters return to action on Thursday, January 11th, when they travel to Smithfield, RI to take on the Bulldogs of Bryant University in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
