MEN'S BASKETBALL UPSETS #22 SAINT ROSE, 71-69

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University men's basketball team defeated the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up, by the score of 71-69, tonight at the Goldstein Health, Fitness and Recreation Center on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University. The Setters improve their overall record to 12-9 and 8-5 in the NE-10, while the Golden Knights fall to 14-4 overall and 10-3 in conference play.

Pace had three players score in double-figures led by junior Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye), who scored a game-high 21 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field. Classmate Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) added 13 points, while senior Oneil Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior) finished the night with 11 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Randy Wilson (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill) had a busy night on the glass recording a game-high nine rebounds (five offensive) and freshman Lawrence McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) dished out a game-high seven assists.

Saint Rose had five players in double-figures, led by Mike DePaoli and Clayton Longmire, who each dropped 14 points. DePaoli hit 4-for-10 from three, while Longmire shot 6-for-10 from the field. Jermaine Clark, Steve Dagostino and Shanty Robinson scored 12, 11 and 10 respectively. Longmire and Robinson each recorded team-high seven rebounds, while Dagostino dished out a team-high six assists.

The first half witnessed even basketball action from both sides, but it would be the Golden Knights who would take a slim 33-31 lead into halftime. Saint Rose held its largest lead of the half at nine points midway through, but the Setters would close the half on a 15-8 run. The Golden Knights benefited from its long range shooting, hitting on 5-of-13 from three. Pace only converted on 1-of-5 from downtown, but shot 48.3% (14-for-29) from the field. The Golden Knights shot 41.9% (13-for-31) from the field.

Saint Rose built their lead by as many as 10 points in the second half on a three pointer by DePaoli at the 14:17 mark, but the Setters would score the next 10 points to tie the game at 49 with 11:05 remaining in the ballgame. Quincy-Jones keyed the run scoring six of the 10. Free throws were crucial for the Setters upset win, as they were able to pull away connecting on 10-15 from the charity stripe in the second frame.

The Golden Knights held the rebounding edge over the Setters 40-35.

The Setters return to action on Tuesday, January 23rd, as they host the fourth ranked and undefeated Bentley College Falcons in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
