MEN'S BASKETBALL CRUISES TO A 97-65 WIN OVER POST
NEW YORK, NY- The Pace University Men's Basketball team cruised to a 97-65 victory over Post University in a non-conference game played on Pace's New York City Campus. The Setters improve to 5-5 overall, while the Eagles drop to 3-5.
Post took an early advantage, scoring the first seven points of the game while Pace missed on their first three shots. The Setters responded with an 18-2 run as Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) scored nine points in the run, backed by three baskets from long range. The Setters forced 16 turnovers in the half, while converting them into 21 of their 48 opening period points. For the half, Williams finished with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, while going perfect from the outside at 3-for-3 to give Pace a 48-31 lead at the break.
The second half featured much of the same as the Setters continued to build on the first half advantage. Oneil Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior) dominated play in the final period, tallying a double-double for the half with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Morgan finished the game with 18 points and a game-high 17 boards, while shooting 8-for-10 from the field. Williams contributed a pair of three-pointers in the half, while Carlos Howard (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High) nailed three three-pointers as the Setters led by as much as 36 and rolled to the victory.
For the Setters, Williams scored a game-high 25 points, shooting 9-for-15 from the field and 5-for-8 from long range. Howard finished with 11 points, five caroms and a game-high eight assists. Callum Jones (Manchester, UK/St. Thomas Moore Prep) came off the bench to contribute 11 points.
For Post, Arthur Robertson was the lone Eagle to score in double figures, finishing with 15 points and grabbing a team-high six boards. Jesse Iyalekhue chipped in eight points, while Tyrone Dulin and Omar Robinson each scored seven points.
The Setters return to action when they travel to Bronxville, NY
in a non-conference game against Concordia College on Saturday,
December 7 for a 3:00 pm tip-off.
