Men's Basketball

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University men's basketball team defeated the Saint Anselm College Hawks in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up, by the score of 87-61, tonight at the Goldstein Health, Fitness and Recreation Center on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University. The Setters improve their overall record to 6-7 and 3-4 in the NE-10, while the Hawks fall to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Pace took control of the game with the help of a 25-6 run midway through the first half.  Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) helped lead the run scoring eight points. The Setters would expand their advantage to 31 points as they took a 51-20 lead heading into intermission. Pace shot 71% (22-for-31) from the field in the first half, while their defense held the Hawks to 23.3% (7-for-30) shooting.

The Setters continued their hot streak building a 41 point lead, the largest of the game, capped off by a three pointer from freshman Carlos Howard (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High). Howard would finish the night with 11 points. Leading the way for the Setters was Williams, who scored a game-high 23 points. The junior from Virginia is now five points away from 1,000 for his career. Randy Wilson (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill) was the third Setter in double-figures scoring 18. Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye) had a game-high eight rebounds to go along with eight points. Senior Oneil Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior) chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds.

Pace held the rebounding edge over Saint Anselm 38-27.

For the Hawks, Greg Vetrano scored a team-high 20 points, while also adding a team-high five rebounds. Giovanni Carenza added 11 points.

The Setters return to action on Friday, December 29th and Saturday December 30th, when they host the Pace University Holiday Classic. Pace will square off against Felician College on Friday and will face Adelphi University on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 8:00 p.m. tip-offs.
