SETTERS GROUND SKYHAWKS, 82-67

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Senior forward Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye) scored a game-high 26 points leading the Pace University men's basketball team to an 82-67 victory over the Skyhawks of Stonehill College this afternoon in a key Northeast-10 Conference game at the Goldstein Center. The Setters improve their overall record to an even 9-9, 8-5 in NE-10 play, while the Skyhawks fall to 13-8 on the season, 9-5 in conference play.

The Setters came out of the gates on fire starting the game on a 13-0 run and never looked back. Senior guard Gibraltar White (Gautier, MS/Gautier) led the run hitting a pair of three pointers, while Quincy-Jones added a pair of jumpers. Stonehill's first basket of the contest came at the 14:10 mark on a lay-up by Mike Kernan (Medford, NJ).  Up by 10, 32-22, with 4:46 left in the half, Pace continued to control the game building their lead by as a many as 22, 44-22, on a 12-0 run capped by a Quincy-Jones jumper with 10 seconds remaining. Ryan Williams' (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) led the run scoring eight of the 12 points. The Setters would head into the break with a 19-point cushion, as Randall Stallworth (Toms River, NJ) hit a three-pointer at the buzzer, cutting Stonehill's deficit to 44-25.

Pace remained in control in the second half, as Stonehill was never able to get to within single digits. The closest the Skyhawks would get was on a lay-up by A.J. Rudowitz (Monroe, NJ) that cut their deficit to 11, 61-50, with 8:24 remaining in the ballgame, but Williams and White would answer with back-to-back three-pointers as Pace cruised down the stretch to their 15-point victory, 82-67.

Quincy-Jones led all scorers with his game-high 26 points, shooting 11-for-19 from the field, including 2-for-4 from three and 2-for-3 from the line, to go along with five rebounds. Williams added 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting, including 2 of 3 from three, to go along with six rebounds, while White finished the game with 17 points, hitting 3 of 7 from beyond the arc, and a team-best seven rebounds. Sophomore Laurence McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) paced the Setters offense dishing eight assists to go with seven points.

Stonehill was led by Vince Rosario's (Perth Amboy, NJ) team-high 21 points, going 7-for-12 from beyond the arc. The Skyhawks would finish the game with 12 three-pointers. Nick Smith finished the game with a double-double scoring 16 points, hitting four treys, and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds. Rudowitz and Colin Scanlon (Centreville, VA) chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively, while Stallworth dished out eight assists on the afternoon.

Pace shot a blistering 54.2% (32-for-59) from the field, including 50.0% (8-for-16) from three and 50.0% (10-for-20) from the line, while Stonehill shot 41.0% (25-for-61) from the field, including 34.3% (12-for-35) from three. The Skyhwaks, however, went to the line just six times, converting five. Pace also out rebounded Stonehill, 37-32.

The Setters will be back in action this Wednesday, January 30th, as Pace will play host to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
