EAGLES SOAR PAST SETTERS, 93-86
WATERBURY, CT - The Pace University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference match up to the Eagles of Post University, 93-86, tonight at the Drubner Center. The Setters fall to 3-5 on the season, while the Eagles even their record to 3-3.
Pace was led by senior Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye), who recorded a team-high 23 points, shooting 9-for-15 from the field, to go along with eight rebounds. Classmate Gibraltar White (Gautier, MS/Gautier) added 19 points on 8-for-16 shooting, while sophomore Laurence McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) contributed with 16 points and a team-best four assists. Red shirt freshman Steven Payton (New Orleans, LA/Brother Martin) chipped in with 11 points. Junior Randy Wilson (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Leading Post to victory was Arthur Robertson, who led all scorers with 32 points on 11-for-17 shooting, to go along with game-highs in rebounds and assists with 13 and eight respectively, for the double-double. AJ Reitter added 26 points going 11-for-17 from the field, while Peter Lawal also recorded a double-double with 14 points, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the field, and 10 rebounds.
The first half featured a tight battle as there were four ties and 10 lead changes. Tied at 30 with 4:16 remaining in the half, the Eagles built their largest lead of the game, 43-34, using a 13-4 run capped off by a lay up by Robertson at the 1:38 mark. Robertson would score seven of the 13 points in the run. Pace would cut their deficit to five, 45-40, heading into the break.
The second half featured much of the same seesaw action with six ties and four lead changes. Pace's biggest lead of the game came in the second half, 60-54, with 13:46 left in the game. Tied at 48 at the 16:19 mark, the Setters used a 12-6 run capped off by a three point play from Quincy-Jones. The lead would not last long as Robertson's three-pointer with 9:41 remaining in the game regained the lead for Post. Both teams would go back and forth as Quincy-Jones's three tied the game for the final time at 77 at the 4:50 mark. That would be as close as Pace would get to retaking the lead, as the Eagles went on an 11-3 run to take an 88-80 lead, their largest of the second hal,f capped off by a Reitter three pointer with 1:33 remaining in the game. Reitter would score seven of the 11 points in the run, as Post cruised the rest of the way for the 93-86 win.
Pace shot 46.4% (32-for-69) from the field for the game, including just 27.8% (5-for-18) from three. The Setters went 17-for-24 (70.8%) from the line. Post shot 57.4% (39-for-68) from the field, including 29.4% (5-for-17) from three. The Eagles were just 10-for-18 (55.6%) from the line. Post controlled the glass out rebounding Pace 41-37.
Pace returns to action on Saturday, December 15th, as
the Setters travel to Manchester, NH to take on Northeast-10
Conference foe, the Hawks of Saint Anselm College. Tip-off is
scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
