PACE RUNS OUT OF GAS
IN SECOND HALF LOSES
TO PHILADELPHIA 82-73
PACE GETS 22 FROM MILLS IN LOSS
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University
men's basketball team lost a hard fought out of conference battle
to the Rams of Philadelphia by the score of 82-73. Pace falls to
4-4 on the season as they suffer their first home loss of the
season, while Philadelphia will improve to
6-2.
Pace started the game off very sluggish, and fell behind early 21-14 with 10:20 left in the first half. The slow start could have been attributed to the long layoff since the Setters have not played a game in 16 days. Pace clawed their way back into it with a 7-0 run late in the first half to make the score 28-27 with 4:55 left in the half. Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) started the run for the Setters with a three-point play off a lay-up, and finished it with another nice lay-up. Both teams didn't shoot the ball well in the first half as Pace shot 38 percent, while Philadelphia shot 40 percent from the field to make the score 32-32 at the half.
The second half started with a 19-7 run by Philadelphia making the score 51-39 with 14:18 left in the game. The Rams got out to a 12 point lead by pushing the tempo, and efficiently executing their offense, to start the half. Pace countered right back as they got the lead down to six at 62-56 on a Maurice Douglas (Waldorf, MD/South Maryland Christian) lay-up with 7:56 left to go in the game. Pace hung around for a little while longer thanks to Ryan Woods (Staten Island, NY/St. Peters Boys) 10 second half points. Philadelphia, on the strength of 65 percent shooting in the second half, pulled away down the stretch to go on to win the game by nine.
The Setters were led by Adrian Mills who had a team-high 22 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field. Pace also had a good effort from Ryan Woods who finished with 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from downtown. Pace shot 43 percent for the game, while the Rams finished the game shooting 51 percent from the field.
The Pace University men's basketball team is back in action on Monday December, 29th as they host Mercy College in their first game of The Pace Holliday Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
