Men's Golf Finishes Tied for Seventh in Season Opening Tournament
Annandale, PA- The Pace University Men's Golf Team kicked off their season on Monday with a seventh place tie at the Goldey Beacom Invitational on the Inscone Golf Course in Annandale, PA. The tournament was a 36-hole event that fielded 11 schools from the surrounding area. Adelphi University, who will become the 16th member of the Northeast-10 Conference next year, won the tournament posting an impressive team score of 595.
The Setters posted a team score of 627 for the event which was impressive considering this was their first match since losing Senior and Division II PING All-Region Northeast Team Member Mike Dominici to graduation last spring. Looking to fill the void left by Dominici this year and lead Pace to another successful season is Senior Matthew Herlihy (Croton, NY/Croton). Herlihy led the team with a 36 hole total of 148 which earned him a tied for 5th place finish for the tournament. Sophomore Kent St. Charles (Wells, ME/Wells) also had a strong showing at the tournament firing a two round total of 158 which placed him in a tie for 26th overall.
Senior Mark Huntington (Brewster, NY/North Salem) shot a 160, T-32rd overall. Fellow Senior Kyle Munoz (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mt. Vernon) shot a 164, T-45th overall. Rounding out the team was Sophomore Rob Sorrentino (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) who had a two day total of 171 putting him in a 56th place tie overall.
The team and new head coach Frank Graniero will have this week off. They return to action next Monday where they will participate in the Dowling College Invitational in Riverhead, NY.
