LATE SETTER RALLY FALLS SHORT IN LOSS TO #2 LE MOYNE
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- James Hammel (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) and Joe Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) each tallied four points, while Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) posted his third 20-save game in his career as the Setters fell to #2 Le Moyne College 14-10 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 2-4 and 1-1 in the NE-10, while the Dolphins improve to 5-0 and 1-0 in conference play.
The Setters got off to a fast start as Page and Joe Arlotta (Garden City Park, NY/St. Mary's) each scored a goal early in the opening quarter for a 2-0 Setter lead. The Dolphins answered with five unanswered goals as Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, NY) netted the first goal, while adding an assist later in the run. Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, NY) and Tyler Sennett (Syracuse, NY) each tallied two scores. Page would add a goal late in the second quarter and the Setters would head into the break trailing 6-3.
Le Moyne opened the third quarter with a pair of goals before Kevin Kadlick (Boston, MA/Catholic Central) scored off a Hammel assist to make the score 7-4 midway through the quarter. The Dolphins would go on to score seven of the next eight goals in the game, including five in a row to build a 14-5 lead with 8:02 left in the game.
The Setters refused to go quietly as Hammel scored goals in the final seven minutes, while Page tallied a pair of assists. Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Northcote) and T.J. Urban (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) each tallied a goal and an assist, with Urban's goal with 1:03 remaining, pulling the Setters to within four at 14-10. Pace could not get any closer and fell in a hard-fought game against the #2 team in the nation.
For Pace, Hammel led the way with four points (3G, 1A), while Page netted two goals and two assists. Sheppard finished with three points (1G, 2A), while Urban added two points (1G, 1A). In net, Matheis posted his third 20-save game of his career with 20 in just over 58 minutes of action. In 2006, Matheis had a career-best 24 saves and last season totaled 22 in a game.
Pace returns to action when they host the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday, March 31 for a Northeast-10 Conference game scheduled for 4 pm.
