SETTERS LOSE OT HEARTBREAKER TO ST. MICHAEL'S 8-7
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Joe Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan), Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Northcote) and Kevin Kadlick (Boston, MA/Catholic Memorial) each had two goals for Pace as the Setters lose a heartbreaker in overtime to the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College, 8-7. The Setters falls to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Knights improve to 3-4 and 1-2 in conference play.
Pace started off quick with a Page goal with just 4 minutes in to the game. After back-to-back St. Michael's goals, Sheppard would tie the game up at two apiece with a score off an assist from T.J. Urban (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon). St. Michael's would break the tie, netting a pair of scores in the second quarter to lead 4-2 at the break. Page netted his second goal of the day in third to pull the Setters within one to start the fourth. St. Michael's would answer back at 9:58 mark in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.
The Setters would score four unanswered goals as Kadlick netted a pair in the run to put Pace in the lead at 7-5 with 5:20 left in the game. Sheppard and Urban also tallied a goal in the four-goal rally. The Purple Knights wasted no time to answer as right off the ensuing faceoff, climbed to within one just 10 seconds later. As time ticked away in the game, the Purple Knights came up with the equalizer as Charlie Ziznansky (Fairfield, CT) scored with 53 seconds left in the game to knot the score at seven. The Setters had a three shot with time winding down but could not find the back of the net. In the extra period, James Baghai. Wellesley, MA) netted the game-winner 58 seconds into overtime.
For Pace, Urban (1G, 3A), Page (2G, 3A), Sheppard (2G), and Kadlick (2G). Goaltender Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) played 60:58 minutes, recording 22 saves, to post the fourth 20-save game of his career.
Pace returns to action when they travel to Worcester, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against the Greyhounds of Assumption College on Wednesday, April 8 at 4 pm.
