SETTERS FALL TO MERRIMACK 17-5
NORTH ANDOVER, MA- Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Northcote) netted a pair of goals in the Setters 17-5 loss to the Warriors of Merrimack College. Pace drops to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the NE-10, while the Warriors improve to 10-1 and 5-1 in conference play.
Sheppard got the Setters an early lead, scoring the first goal of the day off an assist from T. J. Urban (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon). Merrimack would answer with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead. Urban would feed Nicholas Pellerito (Glen Cove, NY/Kellenberg Memorial), who scored the tying goal with 2:14 left in the first quarter and end the opening period tied at two.
Merrimack would open the second quarter, scoring eight of the next nine goals in the game to pull ahead to a 10-3 lead. James Hammel (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) scored the lone Setter goal in the Warrior run. John Kolesar (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and Sheppard would each score a goal in the final two minutes of the second quarter as the Setters would trail 10-5 at the break.
The Warriors would keep Pace off the board in the second half as the Setters attempted six shots in the second half, while Merrimack would seven goals in the final 30 minutes of play.
In net for Pace, goaltender Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) played 60 minutes and recorded 18 saves.
Pace returns to action when they travel to Springfield, MA on Wednesday, April 22 for a Northeast-10 Conference game against American International College at 4 pm.
