HAMMEL'S NINE POINTS LEADS SETTERS PAST AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL 17-12
SPRINGFIELD, MA- James Hammel (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) totaled nine points on five goals and four assists, leading the Setters to a 17-12 victory over the Yellow Jackets of American International College. Pace improves to 4-9 overall, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 0-11 and 0-8 in conference play.
The Setters opened the game scoring the first eight goals of the contest for an 8-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Hammel totaled five points to help the Setters build a 9-2 halftime lead. Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Northcote) posted a goal and two assists in the first half, while T. J. Urban (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) recorded three assists.
The Setters continued their scoring spree in the third quarter as Nicholas Pellerito (Glen Cove, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) would net three goals, while Hammel totaled three assists in the quarter as Pace would take a 14-4 lead into the final 15 minutes of play.
American International would rally in the fourth quarter, scoring four unanswered goals to close the gap to 14-8 midway through the final period. Brendan Chillemi (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) would keep the Yellow Jackets at bay scoring three of the next four goals in the game to give the Setters some breathing room at 17-9. American International would tally three late meaningless goals to account for the final margin ad the Setters would snap five game losing streak.
Hammel's nine points led the way in the Setters highest scoring game of the season, while Pellerito's five points (4G, 1A) and Urban's five assists also played a key role in the Pace win. Sheppard finished with three points (1G, 2A), while Chillemi posted the fourth quarter hat trick. In net for Pace, goaltender Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) played just over 44 minutes, allowing four goals and recording three saves.
