Slayton Takes Home a Pair of Wins as Men’s Swimming and Diving Downs Queens

QUEENS, NY- Senior Derek Slayton (Huntington Beach, CA/Marina/Cypress College) took home a pair of wins as the Setters opened dual meet play with a 113.5-94.5 win over Queens College. Slayton won in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM events.

Slayton posted a time of 2:02.27 in the 200-yard IM and a 58.97 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Freshman Kristoff Kolodko (Rivervale, NJ/Pascack Valley) took home the win in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:46.85, while also winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.96. Senior Dogus Akay (Izmir, Turkey/Isikkent) won the 200-yard freestyle and took second in the 100-yard freestyle. He posted a time of 1:46.32 in the 200-free and a 48.42 in the 100-free. Matt McCann (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.40. The Setters also won the 200-yard medley relay as Akay, Slayton, McCann and Zacchary Filanova (Amsterdam, NY/Albany Academy) with a time 1:39.36.

The Setters will host their first meet of the season on Sunday, November 10 against Le Moyne at 2 pm.
