BRIARCLIFF, NY - The Pace University softball split their final doubleheader of the 2006 season against Queens College in a non-conference twinbill on the Briarcliff campus of Pace University. The Setters would score twice in the bottom half of the 2nd when Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA/Truman) doubled to start the inning and freshman Tricia Alluto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional) singled. After Queens tagged the Setters for a run in the top of the 3rd, Pace would score one run in the 4th when Alluto led off the inning with a triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly by DJ Ketchel (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic). Ketchel would drive in the Setters' 4th and final run of the game in the 6th, scoring Sheila Mercado (Greeley, CO/Greeley West).
For the game, Alluto was 3-for-3 with a run scored, missing the cycle by a homerun. Hunt took the loss for Pace to drop to 5-15 on the year after allowing five runs on four hits over two innings. In the second game, Pace starter Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) held Queens hitless until the 6th inning when the Knights managed to manufacture a run. Cronin doubled down the right field line and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Paparella dropped down a bunt, and Shada was able to get the ball to Alluto in time at the plate to retire Cronin. Lucy Oswald (Flushing, NY) doubled to left field, moving Paparella to third. Lynch then followed with a single up the middle, scoring Sue Hurley (Far Rockaway, NY), who was running for Paparella, with the game's first run.
In the bottom half of the inning, Krause reached on a single to start the inning but was retired at third on a ground ball by Michelle Brigham (Unionville, NY/Minisink Valley). After Krause was retired, Alluto came up big once again, driving a single to left field to score Kinyon from second with the tying run.
