SOFTBALL SWEEPS SAINT AUGUSTINE'S

RALEIGH, NC - The Pace University softball team kicked off the 2007 season with a bang sweeping the Falcons of Saint Augustine's College in a non-conference doubleheader, 14-1 and 15-4. The Setters are 2-0 on the season, while the Falcons drop to 4-6 overall.

In game one, Pace stuck early and often scoring nine runs in the first two innings.  Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) led the Setters at the plate and on the mound. Seniors Julia Hunt (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and Carolyn Krause (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) each contributed with a pair of RBI's. Pace scored at least one run in every inning and took advantage of seven Falcon errors in the game.

Shada (1-0) was also solid on the mound, allowing one run on two hits, giving up two walks, while striking out six batters in four innings pitched. Kim Troaino (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) completed the two-hitter, pitching a scoreless fifth inning, fanning two Falcons.

St. Augustine's lone run of the game came in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Terea Albury.

The Setters once again took advantage of St. Augustine's shaky defense as the Falcons committed six errors in the game. Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) led the Pace offense going 2-for-2 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored, highlighted by a two-run homerun.  D.J.
