SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH MOUNT OLIVE

MOUNT OLIVE, NC - The Pace University softball team split a twin bill with the Trojans of Mount Olive College, dropping the first game 5-2, before winning a pitchers duel in game two, 2-0. The Setters move to 3-1 on the season, while the Trojans go to 25-8.

The Trojans struck first in the bottom of the first on a three run home run by Bailey Harrell. Mount Olive would add two more runs in their half of the second as the Trojans took advantage of a costly Pace error.

Jenny Jackson (7-3) pitched five solid innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk, while sticking out four Setters. Jackson's counterpart, Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) (0-1) went the distance for Pace allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits, while giving up two walks.

Leading the Pace offense were Julia Hunt (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and D.J. Ketchel (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) who drove in one run apiece.

Game two featured a classic pitchers duel between Pace's Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) and Mount Olive's Shauna Cowdrey, as each hurler went the distance. Shada (2-0) earned the complete game shutout allowing four hits and a walk, while striking out four Trojans in seven innings of work. Cowdry (8-3) allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits, surrendering two walks, while striking out six batters.

Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) led the Pace offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Pane took advantage of an error by the second baseman in the top of the first that allowed her to score. Pane would later drive in Carolyn Krause (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) in the top of the seventh.

Pace continues their spring break trip as they will be in action again tomorrow, March 21st as they travel to Durham, NC to take on North Carolina Central University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
