SOFTBALL SWEPT BY NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL

DURHAM, NC - The Pace University softball team was swept by the Eagles of North Carolina Central University in a non-conference doubleheader, losing game one 4-3 and game two 7-2. The Setters are an even 3-3 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 12-8 overall.

Pace led 2-0 through the first four innings of game one, before the Eagles put up a four spot in the fifth, taking advantage on a costly Pace throwing error. The Setters attempted a comeback adding a run in the seventh, but would fall just short.

North Carolina Central was led by Stacey Greene (6-5), who allowed three runs on six hits, while striking out five Setters and surrendering three walks. Asha Sutton, Michelle Ishida and Latisha Judd all recorded an RBI for the Eagles.

Similar to her counterpart, sophomore Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (2-1) also went the distance on the mound for the Setters allowing four hits, four unearned runs, two walks, while striking out six Eagles. At the plate, Pace was led by senior Carolyn Krause (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), who went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI's.  

The Eagles took control of game two early, scoring six runs in the first three innings, including four in the first. Picking up the offensive load for North Carolina Central was Sophia Blue who went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI's and a run scored.  Ishida, Judd and Lakeshia Sheppard all added an RBI.

On the mound for the Eagles, Kristen Schooler (6-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, while striking out one batter and giving up two walks in five innings of work. Ishida provided two innings of relief, allowing just two hits.

For Pace, Julia Hunt (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) (1-1) pitched five innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits, while surrendering three walks and striking out one. Kim Troiano (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) pitched one inning, allowing one run on one hit and a walk. Jessica Bryant (Brownstown, IN/Brownstown) was the only Setter with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

The Setters conclude the North Carolina portion of their spring break schedule and will travel to Ettrick, VA on Friday, March 23rd, to square off against Virginia State University. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
