SOFTBALL SWEPT BY BRYANT

BRIARCLIFF, NY - The Pace University softball team lost a pair of Northeast-10 Conference games to the Bulldogs of Bryant University, by the scores of 5-1 and 4-3. The Setters fall to an even 7-7 on the season and 0-2 in the NE-10, while the Bulldogs improve to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Carolyn Krause (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) got Pace on the board first leading off the bottom of the first with her first homerun of the season. It would be the Setters lone run of game one.

Bryant would take the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run homerun by Amanda Wilbur, scoring Jessica Valentini, who doubled to open the inning. The Bulldogs tacked on another run in the fifth on an RBI double by Valentini and two more runs in the sixth to make the 5-1 final.

Janine Enos (2-2) picked up the victory for the Bulldogs going the complete game, allowing one run on seven hits, while striking out three. Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (4-3) also went the distance, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits, while walking two and fanning one batter.

Pace would strike first again in game two, as Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) scored on a wild pitch by Anne Dobmeier. Hurley opened the inning with a lead off walk and would advance to second and third on a pair of groundouts, before taking advantage of Dobmeier's wild pitch.

Bryant would come back again scoring all of their runs in the top of the sixth. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with a single, hit by pitch and a walk. Ashley Coon drove in the first run with a sacrifice pop up to first base, scoring Kimberly Breton. Kate Thomas followed with a pinch-hit three-run homerun, scoring Dobmeier and Wilbur.

Pace answered back scoring two runs in their half of the sixth on an RBI triple by Alton Frisbie (Indian Hill, CO/Conifer) that scored Hurley and an RBI single by Julia Hunt (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac), scoring Frisbie. The Setters would stage a rally in the seventh, but failed any comeback attempt.

Dobmeier (1-1) picked up her first win of the season, allowing one run on three hits, while giving up three walks and one strikeout. Nikki Ingalls earned the save pitching two innings of relief, allowing two runs on five hits. Kim Troiano (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) took the loss for the Setters, tossing 5.1 innings allowing two runs on five hits, giving up a walk. Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) pitched 1.2 innings of relief giving up two runs on three hits, walking one.

Pace returns to action on Sunday, April 1st as the Setters host the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. at Pace Field on the Briarcliff campus of Pace University.
