SOFTBALL DROPS A TWIN BILL TO STONEHILL

BRIARCLIFF, NY- The Pace softball team dropped a pair of games, 2-0 and 4-1,  to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference twin bill on Pace's Briarcliff campus. The Setters drop to 7-9 overall and 0-4 in the NE-10, while Stonehill improves to 3-11 and 2-2 in conference play.

In the opener, Stonehill got all the runs they needed in the fourth as Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, MA) doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on a passed ball. Ippolito scored on a two-out single by Gina Vivona (Seaford, NY). The Skyhawks tacked on a run in the seventh as Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, NY) led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a double by Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, MA).

The Setters were limited to three hits by Skyhawk starter Kait Mendall (Middleboro, MA), who went the distance. Patricia Hurley's (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) two singles and Kelly Kinyon's (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) double in the seventh registered the lone Setters hits in the opener. Mendall struck out two batters to move her record to 1-2 on the season. For Pace, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) was the tough-luck loser, allowing 10 hits and two runs (one earned) in a complete game effort, while striking out two to drop her record to an even 4-4 on the season.

In the Game 2, Stonehill got on the board in the third as Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, MA) tripled with one out and scored on a squeeze bunt by Folan.

The Setters responded in the half of the inning as Missy Dubey (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug Regional) singled to lead off the inning and stole second. Dubey moved to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Carolyn Krause (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville).

The Skyhawks used the long ball in the fifth to retake the lead. Folan led off with a walk but was forced out at second on a fielder's choice by Lauren Rappoli (Wilmington, MA). Marrero hit a homer to center to put Stonehill up 3-1. One batter later, Ippolito hit a solo shot to center, giving the Skyhawks a 4-1 advantage.

For Stonehill, Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, RI) went the distance, allowing one run and six hits, while fanning two. For the Setters, Julia Hunt (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) tossed a complete game as well, giving up nine hits and four runs, while striking out one.

The Setters return to action when they travel Brookville, NY to take on LIU-C.W. Post on Tuesday, April 3 in a non-conference twin bill with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 pm.
