SOFTBALL SWEPT BY C.W. POST
BROOKVILLE, NY - The Pace University softball team lost a pair of non-conference games to the Pioneers of Long Island University - C.W. Post by scores of 9-1 (six innings) and 7-1. The Setters fall to 7-11 on the season, while the Pioneers improve to 20-10 overall.
C.W. Post scored first in the bottom of third as five Pioneers rounded the bases. Alyssa Gerrish led off the inning with a double to left center. Katie Fisher followed with a walk as Melissa Medina advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt. Kelsey Cooley drove in the first run of the game with a double to left, scoring Gerrish. Melissa Hippo highlighted the inning with a three-run homerun the drove in Fisher and Cooley. Christie Softy followed with a solo homerun as the Pioneers went back-to-back.
The Setters would score their lone run of the game the following inning. Amanda Dague (Spring, TX/Klein Collins) led off the top of the fourth with a walk. Dague would advance to second on a groundout by Trish Allutto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional) and then to third on a wild pitch. Dague took advantage scoring on a throwing error after Missy Dubey's (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug Regional) RBI pop out. Kelly Kinyon's (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) single to right field in the top of the second was the only Pace hit in the game.
The Pioneers added another three runs in the bottom of the fourth as Gerrish connected with a two-run homerun that scored Megan Correia, who singled to lead off the inning. Jill Fisher would later add an RBI single. C.W. Post added a final run in the sixth inning for the 9-1 final, enforcing the mercy rule.
Samantha Yodowitz (15-4) picked up the victory allowing one unearned run on one hit, while walking two and striking out four in six innings of work.
Kinyon (0-2) took the loss for Pace giving up nine runs on nine hits, while walking two and striking out one in 5.2 innings.
Game two was much of the same as C.W. Post struck first. The Pioneers scored a run in the bottom of the second as Gerrish's RBI double scored Softy.
Pace would tie the game in the very next inning as Carolyn Krause (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) hit a solo homerun to left, her second of the season. It would be the Setters only run of the game. Kinyon had the only other hit in the game for Pace, a single to left in the fourth inning.
The Pioneers would retake the lead in the following inning scoring two runs on an RBI single by Jill Fisher that scored Medina and an RBI double by Softy scoring Fisher. C.W. Post would add another two runs in the fourth and the sixth to make the 7-1 final.
Shannon Rideout (1-0) picked up the win allowing one run on two hits, while walking one and striking out two in four innings. Yodowitz tossed three innings of relief striking out three to pick up the save (2).
Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (4-5) pitched six innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 13 hits to go along with seven strikeouts.
Pace returns to action on Wednesday, April 4th, as
the Setters host the Chargers of Dominican College in a
non-conference doubleheader at Pace Field on Pace's Briarcliff
campus. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
