SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH QUEENS

QUEENS, NY- The Pace softball team split a twin bill with Queens, taking the opener, 4-0 and dropping the nightcap 6-2.

In the opener, the Setters dominated the action as Carolyn Krause led off the game with a solo homerun as the Pace cruised to a 4-0 victory. Krause led the Setter offense going a perfect 4-for-4 in the first game scoring two runs and driving in one. Kiryl Shada (9-7) tossed a complete game two-hit shutout, striking out five on her way to her ninth victory of the season.

In the nightcap, Pace got on the board in the first as Krause led off with a single, eventually coming aroudn to score on a single by Patricia Hurley. Queens scored its first runs of the afternoon in the fourth, crossing the plate four times on its way to picking up the split. Pace went on to score one run in the seventh but could not get any closer and fell 6-2. Krause and Kelly Kinyon both went 3-for-4 in the second game. Kinyon started, going the distance, allowing eight runs and six earned run, while striking out two.

The Setters return to action when they host Northeast-10 Conference opponent Franklin Pierce on Saturday, April 21 with first first scheduled for noon.
