SOFTBALL DROPS A TWIN BILL TO FRANKLIN PIERCE

BRIARCLIFF, NY- The Pace softball team dropped a pair of games, 1-0 and 8-1,  to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce College in a Northeast-10 Conference twin bill on Pace's Briarcliff campus. The Setters drop to 12-20 overall and 3-11 in the NE-10, while Franklin Pierce improves to 7-17 and 4-10 in conference play.

The opener was a nail bitter as the Setters' Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) and the Ravens' Courtney Jacobs were spectacular on the hill, each tossing complete games. The lone Raven run came off the bat of Michelle McConnell whose solo homerun in the fourth proved to be the difference in the game. Shada allowed four hits and struck out three while Jacobs limited the Setters to three hits and also fanned three.

In the nightcap, the Ravens struck first in the opening inning, pushing across an unearned run. The Setters came right back in the half of the first, as Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) singled with one out and stole second. Dana Jo Ketchel Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) drove in Pane with a single to tie the score at one. Franklin Pierce retook the lead in the second on a one-out solo homerun by Nicole Leary.

The Ravens held a one-run advantage until the sixth when they took advantage of a Setter error to tally four unearned runs in the inning. The Ravens tacked on three more insurance runs in the seventh to pick up the sweep.

On the hill, Kim Troiano (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) went 6 2/3 innings, allowing 13 hits and eight runs (four earned), while striking out three. Julia Hunt (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) came on in relief, retiring the lone batter she faced in the final inning. For the Ravens, Becky Aalto went the distance, limiting the Setters to three hits and one run, while striking out two.

The Setters return to action when they travel Caldwell, NJ to take on Caldwell College on Sunday, April 22 in a non-conference twin bill with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
