SOFTBALL FALLS TO LE MOYNE

BRIARCLIFF, NY- The Pace softball team dropped a pair of games, 13-5 and 12-1 to the Dolphins of  Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 Conference twin bill on Pace's Briarcliff campus. The Setters drop to 12-24 overall and 3-13 in the NE-10, while Le Moyne improves to 23-12 and 16-3 in conference play.

In the opener, the Dolphins used the long ball to take an early lead on the Setters as Lindsay Spaziani led off the game with a solo shot and Jennifer Farrelly blasted a two-run dinger later in the inning.

The Setters rallied in the second as Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) led off the inning with a single, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. Kerri McLean (Woodhaven, NY) drew a walk. Following the second out of the inning, Tricia Allutto's (Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional) grounder was misplayed by the Dolphin shortstop, opening the floodgates for the Setters. Hurley would score on the error, while McLean reached third. Four consecutive singles by Julia Hunt (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac), Carolyn Krause (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) and Amanda Dague (Spring, TX/Klein Collins) allowed the Setters to cross the plate five times in the inning to take a two run lead.

The Dolphins came right back in their half of the third, capitalizing on three Setter errors to tie the score at five on a pair of unearned runs. Le Moyne retook the lead in the fourth on a solo homerun by Kortney Meadows and put the game out of reach in the sixth, taking advantage of three more Pace errors to score six runs, with the final blow coming off the bat of Emma Murphy with a two-run homerun. The Dolphins tacked on an insurance run in the seventh for the final score of 13-5.

For Pace, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) went the distance, allowing 12 hits and 13 runs (five earned), while striking out five. For Le Moyne, Sarah Reed tossed the first three innings, allowing five hits and five unearned runs, while fanning two. Farrelly came on in relief, earning the win, going the final four innings, pitching a shutout while allowing two hits and striking out one.

In the nightcap, Le Moyne broke the game open early, racking up nine hits in the second inning, scoring eight runs as 12 batters came to the plate in the inning. The Setters scored their lone run in their half of the inning as Jessica Bryant (Brownstown, IN/Brownstown) notched a leadoff single, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a two-out double by Dana Jo Ketchel (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic). Bryant's and Ketchel's hits were two of the Setters' four hits in the game as Dolphin starter Martha Senko struck out five in the game's five innings.
