SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH CALDWELL
ALLUTTO'S TWO-RUN WALK-OFF SHOT GIVES PACE WIN IN OPENER

BRIARCLIFF, NY - The Pace softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Caldwell in the Setters home opener. The Setters took the opener 7-6 in nine innings, while dropping the nightcap 8-6. The Setters move their record to 7-3 on the season, while the Cougars remain at .500 at 7-7.

In the opener, Trish Allutto's (Matawan, NJ) walk-off two run homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning proved to be difference as the Setters took the opener 7-6. Allutto went 3-for-5 on the opener to lead a 15-hit attack as the Setters downed the Cougars. DJ Ketchel (Staten Island, NY) drove in four runs with the key hit coming in the bottom of the second, launching a three-run blast as Pace rallied with four runs in the inning.

On the hill, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI) tossed a complete game, allowing 11 hits, and six runs (four earned), while striking out four to move her record to 3-1 on the season. For Caldwell, Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA) started, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and five runs (four earned), while striking out four. Cecilia Goforth (Houston, TX) tossed the final 3 1/3 allowing five hits and Allutto's game-winning shot, while striking out two to drop her record to 1-2.

In the nightcap, Caldwell scored in the first innings as Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ) led off with a double and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Gina Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ).

The Setters rallied in their half of the first as Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY) and Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA) led off with back-to-back singles to put runners at first and third. Pane scored on a wild pitch, while Hurley crossed the plate on a single by Allutto. A two-run homerun by Alton Frisbie (Indian Hills, CO) gave the Setters a 4-1 lead after one inning of play.

Caldwell rallied with a pair of runs in the second on a run scoring double by Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY) and an RBI single by Sydney Day (Houston, TX) to slice the Pace lead to 4-3. The Cougars took the lead in the third as Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY) hit a two-run homerun to give Caldwell a 5-4 lead. The Setters rallied in their half of the third as Fribie led off with a single and Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA) drew a walk. After moving up a base on a groundout, Kerri McLean (Woodhaven, NY) ripped a two-run single putting Pace back ahead by one at 6-5.

Caldwell took the lead with three runs in the sixth with the key hit coming off the bat of Capardi who lifted a two run homerun to give the Cougars an 8-6 lead and held on in the final two innings to pick up the split.

On the mound in game two, Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA) started for Pace, going six innings, allowing eight runs and 12 hits, dropping her record to 1-2 on the season. Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY) tossed a scoreless seventh to close out the game. Kristen de la Campa (Whitman, MA) went five innings, allowing nine hits and six runs, while striking out four, to even her record at 2-2 on the season. Pulido tossed two scoreless innings in relief to earn her first save of the season.

The Setters return to action when they travel to Garden City, NY to take on Adelphi University in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 27 scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
