SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLHEADER WITH NEW YORK TECH

BRIARCLIFF, NY - The Pace softball team split a doubleheader with New York Tech, falling in game one 5-0 and taking the nightcap 4-1 in non-conference action. The Setters remain at .500 at 11-11, while Tech moves to 20-9 on the season.

In the opener, New York Tech's Nina Cesare (Whitestone, NY) limited the Setters to three hits, while striking out eight in a complete game shutout. For the Setters, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) allowed eight hits and five earned runs in a complete game, while striking out three.

The Setters took the nightcap as Pace pushed across a run in the opening innings. Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) led off with a double, moving to third as Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) reached on an error. Pane would get caught stealing home, but the Hurley would eventually come around to score on a base hit by Trish Allutto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan). Tech would knot the score at one in the third.

The Setters took the lead in the fourth as Kerri McLean (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Molloy) drew a lead-off walk and moved to third on a pair of passed balls. A run scoring single by DJ Ketchel (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) put the Setters back ahead by one. Pace added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth as RBI doubles by Amanda Dague (Spring, TX/Klein Collins) and Pane gave the Setters a 4-1 lead to earn the double dip split.

On the mound for Pace, Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) (2-3) started, going the first four innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out one. Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) tossed the final three innings, allowing three hits and no runs, to earn her first collegiate save.

The Setters return to action when they host Queens College on Thursday, April 10 for a non-conference doubleheader scheduled for a 3:30 pm start on Pace's Briarcliff campus.
