SOFTBALL SWEPT BY SAINT ROSE

BRIARCLIFF, NY - The Pace softball team was limited to three hits in the doubleheader as they fell 4-0 in the opener and dropped the nightcap 9-0. The Setters drop to 17-15 overall and 6-10 in conference play, while the Golden Knights improve to 9-15 and 6-8 in the NE-10.

Saint Rose took the opener 4-0 as starting pitcher Kristen Calahan (Lagrange, NY) threw a two-hitter, while striking out seven to improve to 4-8 on the season. For the Setters, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits, to even her record at 7-7. The offense for the Golden Knights came from Amanda Morano (Highland, NY) who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Lauren Ruggerio (New Windsor, NY), who had a second inning solo homerun.

The struggles for the Setter offense continued on the second game as Saint Rose hurler Tracy Chesebrough (Duaneburg, NY) kept Pace at bay, striking out 13 batters in six innings of work, while allowing one hit on a two-out third inning single to Amanda Dague (Spring, TX/Klein Collins). Saint Rose scored three times in the second as Kerry Monahan (East Meadow, NY) had an RBI single and Megan Rios (Kingston, NY) had a two-run double. The Golden Knights would score four more in the fifth as Monahan (3-for-3, 3 RBIs) had a two-run double to give Saint Rose all the offense they would need for the day.

For Pace, Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) tossed five innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on 11 hits, while striking out three, to drop to 5-4 on the season. Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) went the final inning, allowing a pair of unearned runs on one hit.

The Setters return to action on Friday, April 18 when they will travel to Worcester, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader scheduled for 3:30 first pitch.
