SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH FRANKLIN PIERCE

RINDGE, NH - Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) tossed 10 1/3 shutout innings in the doubleheader, while striking out 11, earning the win in game one as Pace split a twin bill with the Ravens of Franklin Pierce, taking the opener 5-3 and dropping the nightcap 3-0. The Setters remain at four games over .500 at 20-16 and 9-11 in the Northeast-10, while the Ravens are now 6-28 overall and 5-15 in conference play.

In the opener, the Setters were able to capitalize in Ravens miscues as Pace would score their first three runs passed balls, two of them coming in the Setter three-run third inning. The final two runs came on RBI doubles by Trish Allutto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan) in the third and by Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) in the sixth.

Franklin Pierce would rally in the seventh off reliever Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton), scoring three runs but Shada was forced back into action and retired the final batter to secure the win. Shada (9-7) tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on two hits, while striking out seven.

In the nightcap, the Setter bats fell silent as they were limited to two hits in the game and fell 3-0.  Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) started allowing three runs on three hits in two innings of work to drop to 5-5 on the season. Shada came on in relief, tossing the final four innings, allowing only two hits and struck out four.

The Setters return to action on Tuesday, April 22 when they travel to Orangeburg, NY for a non-conference doubleheader against Dominican College scheduled for 3:30 pm first pitch.
