SOFTBALL SPLITS TWIN BILL WITH DOMINICAN

ORANGEBURG, NY - Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY) went 3-for-5 with three runs scored as the Pace softball team a split a doubleheader with the Chargers of Dominican College, falling in the opener 2-1, while winning the nightcap 3-2. The Setters are now 21-17 on the season, while the Chargers are 23-21.

In the opener, the Setters took an early lead in the opening inning as Pane led off with a single to right and moved to second as Alton Frisbie (Indian Hills, CO) drew a walk. Pane moved to third on a fielding error and came in to score on the bases loaded walk to Trish Alluto (Matawan, NJ). Dominican knotted the game at one in the bottom of the first as Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) reached on a fielder's choice and scored the equalizer on the double to right by Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ).

The score remained tied until the final inning as Dominican's Shayla Esgro (Jermyn, PA) ripped one out double to left field. Esgro would score the winning run on Kristine Knuth's (Staten Island, NY) RBI double.

Charger starter Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) tossed complete game four-hitter to improve her record to 5-5, while recording seven strikeouts. Setter hurler Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI) took the loss (9-8), allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out six.

In the nightcap, Pace again took an early lead, pushing across run on in the top of the third. Pane reached base on a one out double to left and came in to score as Frisbie reached base on a Dominican fielding error.

Dominican again came right back in their half of the inning as Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA) started reached base on an error and moved to second on the ground out by Knuth. A single to left by Terpstra scored Philpot and knotted the score at one.

The Chargers took a one run lead in the fifth as Philpot led off the inning with a single, moved to second on the walk to Terpstra and scored on the RBI double to left by Piasecki to give Dominican a 2-1 lead.

The Setters waited until the seventh to rally back as Amanda Dague (Spring, TX) got a one out single to left and Pane drew a walk to put runners at first and second. With two outs, Frisbie came through with the clutch hit as she singled to score Dague and Pane to give Pace the 3-2 lead. The Setters would hold on in the bottom of the seventh as Dominican got a runner to first with two outs but Setter pitcher Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY) retired the next batter to give Pace a split.

Dominican starter Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY) three a complete game, allowing three runs (one earned) in eight hits, while striking out five to drop to 4-5 on the season. For Pace, Rescigno moved over the .500 mark at 6-5 as she allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits, while striking out three.

The Setters return to action on Thursday, April 24 when they will host Merrimack College in a Northeast-10 doubleheader scheduled for 3:30 first pitch on Pace's Briarcliff campus.
