PACE LOSES TO MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE IN FINALE OF HAMPTON TOURNAMENT
HAMPTON, VA- The Pace softball team wrapped their Hampton University Tournament with a tough 2-1 loss to the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore. Amanda Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) went 2-for-3 in the game, driving in the lone run for the Setters on the day. The Setters end their spring break trip with a 5-2 record.
The Setters struck first in the second inning as Kerri McLean (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and Larissa Porcelli (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) led off with back-to-back singles. The runners would advance to second and third on a sacrifice bunt and McLean would score on Dague's run scoring single for a 1-0 Pace lead. UMES would rally with a run in the third and the go-ahead run in the fourth. Pace had a couple of opportunities with runners on base but could get the tying run to cross the plate.
On the mound, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (3-1) tossed a complete game five-hitter, allowing two runs, while striking out five.
The Setters return to action back to northeast regional play when they will travel to Old Westbury, NY for a non-conference game against New York Tech on Wednesday, March 25.The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm.
