COACH STABILE EARNS 500TH CAREER VICTORY IN OPENER;
SETTERS SWEEP WITH SEVENTH INNING RALLY IN NIGHTCAP

BRIARCLIFF, NY- Head Coach Claudia Stabile picked up her 500th career victory as the Setters took the first game of the doubleheader with a 5-3 win over the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College. The Setters completed the sweep in dramatic fashion rallying back from an eight-run seventh inning deficit to score 10 times to win 14-13. Pace moves back over the .500 mark at 7-6 and improves to 2-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Purple Knights fall to 4-11 and 0-5 in conference play.

The Setters got off to a good start in the opener as Amanda Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) reached base on a fielding error with one out. Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) blasted a two-run homerun to put Pace up 2-0. In the second, the Setters would again take advantage of a Saint Michael's error as Missy Dubey (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug Regional) reached second on a two-base miscue. Nicole Shultheis (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) drove in Dubey two batters later with a single to right.

Pace would add two more runs in the fifth as Trish Allutto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional) and Larissa Porcelli (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) each had an RBI single. The Purple Knights would rally in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs to slice the score to 5-3 but Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) shut the door to earn Coach Stabile her milestone victory. Shada (4-3) tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on eight hits, while fanning three. Hurley went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Dague scored a pair of runs.

In the nightcap, Saint Michael's would build a 3-1 lead after four innings of play. The Purple Knights would tack on two in the top of the sixth before the Setters answered with three in the bottom of the frame to trail 5-4 heading into the wild final inning of play. Saint Michael's would pound out seven hits, pushing across eight runs for a seemingly secure 13-4 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

The Setters would rally as Pane led off with a single and moved to second as Dague reached on a fielding error. Hurley would reach on an infield single, allowing Pane to score the first run of the inning. Allutto, on her way to a big final inning at the plate, blasted a three-run homerun to slice their deficit to 13-8. Porcelli kept inning going with a single but was retired for the first out on a Lauren Bell (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free) fielder's choice. The Purple Knights would make two more errors in the inning allowing Bell and pinch runner Michelle Forgione (Islip, NY/Islip) to score the ninth and 10th run for a 13-10 game. Pane ripped her second hit of the inning set up a bases loaded situation. The Purple Knights would record the second out of the inning before the Setters completed their comeback. Hurley also collected her second hit of the inning with a run scoring single to chip the score to 13-11. Allutto capped off a five-RBI inning with a two-out game-tying two-run single to knot the score at 13. Porcelli would complete the improbable Setter victory with a game-winning single to score Hurley from second base to give Pace a 14-13 come-from-behind victory. When the dust settled, the Setters had scored 10 runs on eight hits, while capitalizing on three Saint Michael's errors for a thrilling heart-stopping victory to cap off a milestone day in Pace softball history.

For Pace, Allutto's six RBIs (five in the seventh) along with going 4-for-5 in the nightcap paced the Setter offense. Hurley had back-to-back solid games, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI, capping off her 6-for-9 afternoon. Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) tossed six innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits, while striking out two. Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) gave up eight runs in the seventh but evens her record at .500 at 1-1 with the Setters rally in the final inning.

Pace is back in action on Tuesday, March 31 when the Setters host Dominican College in a non-conference twin bill scheduled for 3:00 pm on Pace's Briarcliff campus.
